Going Hunting with Your UTV

Hunting trips can be made much easier by bringing along your UTV. UTVs are spacious and can handle your whole hunting crew along with their gear, and you can use the cargo space to bring your game back to your truck when you’re done.

Scout Out Your Location in Advance

Before you even get going on your trip, it can be helpful to head out to your desired hunting destination and scout it out in advance of the season. Your UTV will be a big help here since it allows you to easily traverse a lot of ground quickly.

You can seek out the paths of movement that your desired game might create and search for their favorite types of vegetation to eat so you know where the animals are likely to congregate. Select a hunting spot that is downwind of your prey so that your scent isn’t carried back to them.

Carry the Right Gear

Equipping your UTV with the necessary gear will help you be ready for any scenario you might encounter while you’re out hunting. Mount your rifles on a rifle scabbard for safe transport to your blind. Install a winch to haul game out of a ditch for dressing or to haul another vehicle out of a tight spot or even to move a fallen log that’s in your path. Bring a GPS unit that can help you find your way back out of the wild to your truck. You can also mark the most successful hunting spots on your GPS so you can return to them later on.

Practice Good Hunting Safety

When you’re out in the woods, it’s important to follow good safety practices to keep yourself and others safe.

      •  Set up your hunting blind further away from other people so that everyone has their own space.

      •  Unload and case your weapon when it’s in transit on your UTV.

      •  Take a hunting safety course if you haven’t before.

      •   Never fire your rifle near roads or buildings.

      •   Be mindful of other hunting parties in the area.

      •   Wear blaze-orange vests to ensure that you can be seen.
