Why the Polaris NorthStar Is the Cab We Put Customers In
Rivercity Motorsports, Sault Ste. Marie
A lot of side-by-sides can take a roof and a set of doors. The Polaris NorthStar is built as a cab from the factory, and that is the difference you feel on a January morning in the Sault, or on a July afternoon on a dusty bush road.
NorthStar is Polaris’s enclosed package on the RANGER XP 1000, the heavier XD 1500, and the XPEDITION. You are not bolting a kit onto an open machine. You are getting a factory cab, factory heat and air conditioning, and a interior meant to be used with the doors shut.
It is a real climate system, not a heater duct
NorthStar comes with factory heat, air conditioning, and defrost. On the XP 1000 the system uses a variable AC compressor so it still cools at idle and low rpm, which matters when you are idling a plow or sitting in a cut block. Recirculation pulls air from inside the cab instead of outside, so it heats and cools faster once the doors are shut. Higher trims add heated seats.
Can-Am’s Defender Limited and Lone Star have a strong factory HVAC system too. We will say that plainly. Where NorthStar pulls ahead for most of our customers is how the whole package is finished: door seal, glass, vents, and controls that work like a truck, not a kit.
The cab actually seals
A tip-out glass windshield, glass rear panel, full doors, power front windows, wiper and washer, and sound insulation are part of the factory cab, not a Saturday project. Doors close and stay closed. Dust stays out on dry trails. Snow and slush stay out when you are running a driveway at 6 a.m. An aftermarket cab can look enclosed in the showroom and still leak at the hinges by the second winter.
It is still a work Ranger
The cab does not turn it into a toy. An XP 1000 NorthStar keeps the ProStar engine, a 1,000 lb box, 2,500 lb towing, and a synthetic-rope winch with auto-stop. The XD 1500 NorthStar Ultimate steps up to a 1,500 lb box, electronic box lift, and a 6,000 lb winch. You can plow, pull a trailer, and still get out of the machine without brushing snow off the seat.
The interior is where long days get shorter
Ultimate trims add the 7-inch RIDE COMMAND screen, a factory rear camera, and JBL audio aimed at the seats. Navigation and backup view matter more when the windows are up and you cannot hang your head out to see the hitch. Controls for heat, fan, and windows are where your hand already is. You are not reaching across a shifter to change the temperature.
Who it beats, and who it does not
Against an open Ranger or a soft cab, NorthStar wins on every cold, wet, or dusty day. That is not close.
Against a factory-cab Defender, it is a preference, not a knockout. Defender is a strong machine with real HVAC. We sell the NorthStar because the seal, the idle cooling, the glass, and the way the cab is integrated feel more like a truck and less like an off-road vehicle with doors. In this climate, that is the machine people keep.
If you want to sit in one with the heat on, we have NorthStars on the floor at Rivercity Motorsports. Bring the jacket you usually wear to plow. You will not need it.
